How should I raise money for an educational trip to Europe?

We are already having a car wash and a couple of other little things but i was wondering how i would get local businesses to get involved in maybe donating some money. How would i make that letter look good and not look like we were just scamming them for money
I need to know ways to get local businesses to donate. I dont want to do some online scam thing, which is what shellcash is.
